The City of Toronto photographers work for the Protocol Services division of Toronto.
Their photo and video shootings cover all protocol events as well as special assignments and they shoot a lot of diverse material for all the city’s divisions.
They have been looking for a system which would allow them to easily manage their pictures and to share them securely with the City’s other divisions and departments.
After an experience with a less advanced system, and after seeing and testing with the City Archives’ Fotoweb 8 system, they made the decision to implement Fotoweb 8.
CanDAM was retained as the system supplier and we helped the city’s IT people with the DAM planification, installation and configuration. We also trained the IT staff and transferred knowledge to allow them to be autonomous with the system general operations and configuration options for their own workflow.
CanDAM participated in the analysis of requirements and Business Process Management to identify the different workflow scenarios and the different metadata and procedures which were required to manage such processes.
Harmonization with the city archives nomenclature and taxonomy also took place to make sure no isolated digital islands would be created.
The CanDAM team worked with the city IT and Protocol Services team to help make the project a successful one.
Additionally, a custom service was developed to allow incorporate automatically the metadata from incoming video files in various format. This was the base to our CanDAM Metadata Mapper service add-on product.
